OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T smartphones have gone head-to-head for a record number of sales and are expected to sell well in excess of 1.1 million units.
In the first two weeks of the year, OnePlus 5, the company’s first phone with a 5-inch display and Snapdragon 835 processor, has sold 1.4 million units, the firm’s latest quarterly financial report said.
The previous record holder, the OnePlus 3T, had sold 1 million in the same period.
The company has been forced to revise its sales figures due to the launch of the OnePlus 5.
The latest quarter also saw the company cut its forecast for sales growth by half, to 1.6 million units in 2018.
“The launch of our latest smartphone, the 5X, was not without its challenges.
But, thanks to a strong customer base, strong partnership with the OnePlus Foundation, and strong investment from OnePlus, we are now on track to reach our target of 1 million units,” chief executive officer Carl Pei said in a statement.
“We are also confident that our continued efforts to enhance our products and services will continue to deliver great value for our loyal fans.”
Last year, the first-ever mass-market smartphone sold more than 1.2 million units worldwide, peaking at 1.7 million units for the iPhone 6S Plus.
Sales of the phone were expected to grow by more than 20% to more than 3 million units during the year ending December 31, according to market researcher IDC.
This is likely to be surpassed by next year, when the company aims to boost its sales by 20% over the same timeframe.
